Risk Factors

The Risk Factors for Adolescent Drug and Alcohol Abuse in Arkansas report contains the most recent data available on a number of demographic, community, and behavioral factors connected with the abuse of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. Through providing this data and working with community and prevention leaders, the Division of Behavioral Health Services hopes to decrease the incidence of substance abuse, violence and other problem behaviors in children and help all Arkansans live productive lives.

The Arkansas Statewide Epidemiological Workgroup (SEW) was founded in 2005 to improve behavior health by using data-driven decision making and analytical thinking to address the causes and consequences of the use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs.

The SEW produces the Statewide Epidemiological Profile, which brings together data from a number of national and state agencies to provide an in-depth look at the causes and consequences of the use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs among both adults and children. The profile’s purpose is to show state policy makers the substance abuse challenges Arkansas faces.

Substance abuse data is compiled from various national and state agencies to integrate information about the causes and consequences of the use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs in both adults and children.

SPE

State Prevention Enhancement (SPE) grants are awarded by the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration to help states implement the agency’s Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF), especially in high-need communities. An essential element of the grants is collaborating with other agencies to share substance abuse data, provide training, and enhance and align the state’s prevention data system. The Arkansas Foundation for Medical Care is the backbone for collecting and consolidating prevention resource data for use in an interactive resource guide for primary care physicians.
